The No Surprises Act requires all providers (including “cash practices”) to give a “Good Faith Estimate” (or “GFE”) verbally and in writing to all uninsured and self-pay patients upon scheduling or upon request. The regulations require GFEs to include certain information and set specific time limits to provide them. A dispute resolution process may be required if your charges exceed your GFE. Providers are required to comply on Jan. 1, 2022, so it is important to get your policies and procedures in place ASAP! Knowledge of the GFE rule is essential to avoid enforcement action or costly dispute resolution.
